Scouting Report 7/26/19

This week most of the area’s cotton is now squaring good with quite a few fields starting to bloom and set bolls. There are still a few fields out there that have yet to start squaring that I am concerned about. The average square set at this time is 86%, which is very good for this point in the season. For the fields that we have checked this week we had a low of 61% and a high of 100%. I will be following up on the 61% and the 100% has just began squaring. Most fields sit between 83 %and 88%. Insects are still very light at this time. Cotton fleahoppers are out there, but I would be hesitant to treat them in any of the fields that I have checked due to low numbers and fear of flaring up secondary pests. Stinkbugs are present and appear to be building. I am concerned that once we start harvesting this grain they will more than likely start moving into cotton. Beneficial numbers continue to build, primarily lady beetles and spiders. Hopefully these numbers continue to grow and keep the pests under control.
