Scouting Report 8/5/23

Going into the first week of August things have settled in to a slow idle throughout most of the area. From a pest stand point, stink bugs are the only thing on most folks radar at this time and they have been lite in most all locations. I have found damage in quite a few fields, but I have yet been able to find the numbers to go along with the damage. If fact in several fields I was unable to find a single SB. Our scouting program… Read More →

Scouting Report 7/28/23

Most of this crop is still advancing quite slowly. A large number of fields have still yet to start blooming with quite a few more that have just now begun to bloom. Fortunately for these fields it is not too late. If we can get blooms on the plant by the second week of August that will still give us three full weeks of blooming before we generally run out of heat units at the end of the season. If we have a warmer than normal fall we… Read More →

Scouting Report 7/21/23

When compared to last week not a lot has changed besides development in this crop has continued to progress. Lygus are still at moderate levels in many fields with elevated levels in a few fields that I am monitoring. Stink bugs are still being caught readily in most irrigated fields but not at concerning levels at this time. I am concerned that come mid to late August when we have most of our smaller bolls on the plants that their numbers might start to spike. Spider mites continue… Read More →

Scouting Report 7/15/23

Insect activity has picked up towards the end of this week considerably, especially from of St. Lawrence down to around Styles and over to Midkiff. Lygus bugs have been increasing in areas and I finally made a call to treat a field this week since it has remained above threshold for 4 days and activity was increasing. There are also a couple of other locations that I am monitoring for increased levels. Our scouting program has picked up spider mites this week in a couple of fields with… Read More →

Scouting Report 7/7/23

Not a great deal has changed over this past week. Insect numbers are still extremely low everywhere we have looked. The only exception would be in the area east of Garden City/FM 33. Our scout was not able to get over there this week but I checked many locations there myself and overall insect levels were low. Most cotton is at the 8-12 leaf stage and is now setting squares. We do still have quite a bit that is a small as 4-6 leaves and very slow growing…. Read More →

Scouting Report 7/3/23

This crop is starting off quite slow for the most part at this point in the season. Early cold, wet weather followed by extremely hot temperatures have led to slow growing, stressed plants. Weeds have been the biggest issue to this point. Insects have been very light up to now. Early season wireworms were a sporadic issue, most all in fields following sorghum and haygrazer from last season and were seed treatments where not used. They have still not been as large of an issue as I expected…. Read More →

Harvest Aid Trial Update

Here are the ratings for the second week of our harvest aid trial conducted at Tommy Hoelscher’s on 9-29. I have since taken up all of the signs as he made his kill shot a day or two ago so any further results will not be accurate. As the temperatures have dropped off considerably the past couple of days and appear to be staying this way I am looking for a location to put out another trial if you have a field that is about ready to spray… Read More →

Harvest Aid Trial

It has been one week since I put out a harvest aid trial on Tommy Hoelscher’s Pipper Farm on CR 130. Each of the 12 treatments are marked with signs of the treatments and the rates. This trial was sprayed on 9/29 at 10:30 am. It was 80 degrees at the time. Below are the ratings after one week with the percentage of leaves that were defoliated, desiccated, and still green for each treatment. Feel free to give me a call if you have any questions.

For a large portion of this crop, we have now hit cruise control and we are riding out the final few weeks until we start killing it. It has completely cutout and most every boll if not all bolls are safe from in-sect damage, and we have a few bolls starting to pop. On the other hand, we have quite a few fields still blooming with a considerable amount of growth currently. Quite a bit of PGR has been put on these fields to control growth and speed… Read More →

Scouting Report 8/27/21

This crop continues to make good progress which needs to happen as we are getting down to the short rows as far as having enough time to mature blooms into fully mature bolls before we run out of heat units. Stinkbugs have been on a steady rise over the past week but are still very spotty throughout the three counties. I highly recommend everyone get out and check your fields, and definitely check before making and blanket application across all of your acres. You already have enough in… Read More →
