Scouting Report 6/29/18

Here is this week’s report, with adjusters making their rounds this week it appears that as much as 90% of our overall acreage could be failed out at this time. What does remain is starting to finally try and come around a little bit. Much of it is starting to get it’s feet under it after a very rough start. We are also getting to the point were our heavily salt affected fields finally get going and start to grow off a bit. Stands remain very uneven as most all fields have cotton that is at cotyledon to 2 true leaves as well as 8-10 true leaves. Some of these fields are even further along than that. The skips are very obvious, but as the plants mature and hopefully with a little rain, only the largest skips will be visible. About 65% of our fields are squaring at this time. We are seeing some blasted first position squares but I can not find enough cotton fleahoppers present to associate the damage with. I feel like most of the blasted squares is from the persistent heat and the blowing sand. As a whole our square sets are running 85%-98%. Beneficial numbers have started climbing considerably this week, especially on older cotton that has been squaring for at least a week.

I would advise everyone to watch out for spider mites on just about everything that you own that is green and actively growing at this time. Spider mites are in the area and have so far been found on corn, sorghum, watermelons, and ornamentals. Any pesticide applications made in which we kill off our beneficials is almost surely to flare mites this summer.  Only spray when you absolutely have to.

Give me a call if you need me to look at anything.
