Scouting Report 7/17/20
This crop is continuing to make a little more progress each week as more and more fields begin to bloom. Those fields which have good water are sitting around 6-7 NAWF which is not great but not too bad considering this year. Unfortunately quite a few fields are starting to bloom at 3-5 NAWF. Scouting Report 6/12/20
It’s once again time to kick off another season of cotton as our scouts are back in the field checking plants and taking notes. Aside from the dry conditions that have prevented a large portion of our acres from emerging most fields are on the quiet side as they generally are this time of the year. Spider Mites Increasing in Cotton
Spider Mites have been increasing over the past week in area cotton fields. They have not only been on the rise in dry land fields in dry dusty locations, but also in several irrigated fields and found throughout these fields. In many of these fields the upper surface of the leaves are turning red from the feeding damage. Scouting Report 8/16/19
This is the final report of the season as we wrap up our scouting program this year and all of our scouts go back to school. I will continue to send out information in between newsletters that I feel is important and needs immediate attention. Scouting Report 8/9/19
Somehow this crop manages to hang on despite most folks now reaching somewhere in the neighborhood of around 80+ days of any kind of significant rainfall of .5″ or more. We are seeing very little square or boll shed at this time. Overall square and boll retention is right around 86% at this time, which is still to high and we will see some fruit shed before the season is over regardless. Scouting Report 8/2/19
It’s definitely a good thing that we started out with the moisture that we did, because this past June and July has been drier than ’15-’17 when we thought we were wet and had the potential for great crops. This never ending heat has not helped the situation any as well. However, this crop is still managing to hold on better than most would expect it too. This cotton has really taken off for most folks over the past week. Just about everything in the three county area is now squaring with a couple of fields now blooming. Several more should start blooming next with more to come the week after. Cotton fleahoppers (CFH) are still out and about, but up to this point I have yet to find a field that is close to threshold and needing treatment. As we wind this year’s scouting program down, stink bugs continue to be the main topic of concern. If you have not checked all of your fields this week I highly suggest that you do so. This week makes the 7th week in a row I have been talking about them. The more aggravating fact is that there is no pattern. For the earlier planted cotton, this crop continues to load up very nicely, but it is going to have to have this rain this weekend in order to produce an above average yield that we are shooting for. Some of the later planted cotton may be able to hold off another week to ten days. Scouting Report 8/3/18
We are winding down our scouting program right now. Today (8/3) will be Shay’s last day and Andrea will finish up next Wednesday. Scott will stay on until 8/22 and will spend his time primarily looking for stinkbugs and worms.
