Scouting Report 7/15/17

This week everything is uniform enough that I am going to give one report to cover the entire Glasscock, Reagan, Upton Counties area.

All but two fields that were checked this week were squaring, with the majority of these fields in their second week of squaring. Square sets ranged from a low of 74% to a high of 95%. The field with the 74% is one of only three fields to record any cotton fleahopper activity this week. With the CFH and lower square set I will be following up on the field and a few surrounding fields this coming week. All three fields that had CFH activity this week were far below economic threshold. Beneficial numbers continue to climb each week. In dryland fields, square sets are really good, and if rainfall is not received soon then squares or small bolls will be shed.

Bollworm moth numbers continue to climb in traps throughout all three counties. Eggs have been found in a couple of field but so far the Bt technology is doing its job of controlling worms. Reports have been coming in of folks having to spray for bollworm in older 2 gene Bt cotton in the Valley, South Texas and the Brazos Valley. I’m hoping we can stay ahead of any problems like that in this area.
