Wheat Update

WHEAT UPDATE Here’s a quick update on the current situation of the wheat crop in the St. Lawrence area. I have checked several fields this week and we are starting to pick up stripe rust in quite a few fields in the area. This is not overly surprising considering the cool, wet conditions that we experienced just a few weeks back. However, I check with several agronomist from here all the way to Corpus just last week and the only reported cases were in Runnels County. At this… Read More →

Scouting Report 8/16/19

This is the final report of the season as we wrap up our scouting program this year and all of our scouts go back to school. I will continue to send out information in between newsletters that I feel is important and needs immediate attention. At this time we have two main areas of focus, watching blooms to the top of the plant as we approach our final bloom date of August 26th to August 28, and the handful of insects that are out and about in the… Read More →

Scouting Report 8/9/19

Somehow this crop manages to hang on despite most folks now reaching somewhere in the neighborhood of around 80+ days of any kind of significant rainfall of .5″ or more. We are seeing very little square or boll shed at this time. Overall square and boll retention is right around 86% at this time, which is still to high and we will see some fruit shed before the season is over regardless. We still have a small amount, somewhere between 10% and 15% of our cotton that… Read More →

Scouting Report 7/20/18

This crop continues to make good progress with the hot weather pushing it daily. Where we have good water this crop is really loading up, is other area I have noticed some fields have already reached cutout and are very near blooming to the top. This is not the situation that we want to be in when the only crop we have is our irrigated cotton. Many fields are blooming nicely and are sitting at 7-8 NAWF at this time. This is really good and if we can… Read More →

Scouting Report 7/13/18

Overall this crop is starting to turn the corner and look considerably better at this time. It is a shame that we can’t have 150,000 acres that look like this. This crop may be uneven and mixed in maturity, but all in all it’s not too bad. The rains that we have had over the past week to 10 days along with the cooler temperatures have helped tremendously. It’s amazing what a rain will do. It’s crazy how some of this crop is still at cotyledon stage while… Read More →

Scouting Report 6/8/18

Things are starting out fairly slow for this point in the season but basically 0.0″ of rainfall has a lot to do with it. The scouts did not check a tremendous number of fields this week but what they did look at was all basically the same as what I have seen; cotyledon to 2 true-leaves, with a handful of thrips scattered throughout the field. Beneficial numbers are pretty low, but they generally are at this point in the season. Cotton fleahoppers (CFH) are being found on wild… Read More →
