Here is this week’s scouting report. I have attached another copy of the Regional Map in case anyone has questions about what region or regions that they may be in. I am out of town this weekend so I can not speak on the rain activity in the area. Not a whole lot of activity going on right now on the insect side of things. Thrips have been very low and anything that has reached 5-7 true leaves is no longer in danger of thrips anyhow. We will begin checking squaring cotton for fleahoppers this week.
Region 1
Region 1 ranged anywhere from 2-6 true leaves with a couple of of fields that were squaring quite well. Beneficial insects varied across the region but overall appear to be on the rise. Thrips are not much of a concern.
Region 2
Overall fields range from not yet emerged to 5 true leaves. Most all fields checked were in the 4-5 true leaf stage. Beneficial numbers continue to increase, primarily spiders, but lacewing larva and ladybeetles are also climbing. Thrips were higher in this area than anywhere else, but still not a concern. Aphids continue to be monitored.
Region 3
Most cotton in this region is anywhere from 2 true leaves to just starting to sqaure. Beneficial numbers are climbing nicely in this region. Almost no thrips can be found.
Region 4 & 5
Both of these regions looked nearly identical. Fields checked ranged anywhere from 1 true leaf to squaring. Beneficials were proportional to number of leaves present with the bigger plants having more bennies. They also had a good variety with spiders, lacewings, and ladybeetles. Almost no thrips were found.
