Scouting Report 6/19/17

Sorry for the late report this week, we are still working out some issues with the technology. Overall this crop is not looking too bad despite these extreme temperatures this past week. The majority of the crop is up and growing.

Region 1

The crop is anywhere from 1-6 true leaves, beneficial numbers are still low. Most beneficials are spiders at this time with a few lady bugs and lacewing larva here and there. Thirips numbers are still low even in the newly emerging dryland. With the heat units we are accumulating thrips should not be a concern.

Region 2

This region is anywhere from cotyledon to 5 true leaves. Beneficials are low as well but slightly higher in some areas. This is primarily due to the fact that a few aphids are being picked up on a few plants. At this time is does not appear that the aphids are reproducing much, they are primarily serving as a food source for the beneficial insects. Thrips numbers are low in the region as well.

Region 3

Cotton is this region varies from 2 to 6 true leaves and the beneficial numbers remain low. Again spiders and lady bugs are the dominant beneficial species. Aphids have also been detected in this region, primarily in the area between Co-op RD and FM 137. I would definitely keep my eyes open if you have watermelons in the vicinity.

Region 4

Region 4 is anywhere from cotyledon to squaring. Beneficial numbers remain low is this region as well. Spiders are the primary species, thrips numbers are low.

Region 5

This region is anywhere from 2-6 true leaves. Beneficial numbers here like in the rest of the area are low. Thrips numbers remain low and the cotton should be able to outgrow any pressure from thrips.
