Scouting Report 6/10/17

Let me start this off by saying I’m open to suggestions on was to improve both the scouting and the reporting portions of the program. So any and all ideas will be taken into consideration. I thought about sending a daily report for each region but I am concerned that you will get over whelmed with emails, especially at times when nothing is happening and not read them. Then if something pops up you miss it. If something of importance does arise I can still send out more than one report a week. So here goes.

Region 1

Over all, not a whole lot to report on, most fields between 2nd true-leaf and seed. A few beneficials present, but not many which is typical for this time of year. An occasional thrips could be found but well below threshold and with warm temperatures should not be an issue.  Leafhoppers are present in many fields although not at numbers to be an economic concern.

Region 2

Most fields between 3 true-leaf and seed. An occasional thrips could be found, not at economic levels, leafhoppers again seen in many fields. Still not at economic levels. A couple of fields had plants with a couple of aphids on them. I have also found plants in this area, primarily volunteer with aphids. We need to keep our eyes open for aphids, especially in this region.

Region 3

Fields in this region ranged from 3 true-leaf to seed with most being 1 true-leaf to 3 true-leaf. Thrips can be found in very low numbers, all below threshold. Beneficials are present is low numbers, but are slowly building. Aphids were also found in this area in one field in low numbers. Producers are advised to keep an eye out for them.

Region 4

Most all fields in this region ranged from 1-3 true-leaves with some that still have not emerged. Again thrips are present in many fields at low levels. Beneficials are present and this is a good start for this time of the year. Aphids were found in field in this region. They are at low levels, but we need to be aware of them.

Region 5

These fields ranged between 1-3 true-leaves. Beneficial numbers were very good in these fields. No aphids were found in any of the fields checked.
